Can I use essential oils in my hot tub?
Regular everyday essential oils are NOT safe to use in your hot tub. Your hot tub has been specially designed to filter, clean and purify your water which is why you are able to leave the water for up to 3-4 months without changing it. It is really important that you DO NOT ADD oily or unsuitable aromatherapy products to your hot tub, even though it may be nice at the time, as it will quickly clog up your filters and damage the internal parts of your hot tub – creating you more hassle in the long run.
You will use some form of sanitation (chlorine or bromine) in your hot tub which is highly dependent on having the correct pH and Alkalinity. Using unsuitable aromatherapy products will change the pH of your water which can cause your sanitiser to have to work harder, therefore costing you more money as you will need to use more sanitiser.

Which hot tub aromatherapy is right for me?
The great thing is that there is such a huge range of aromatherapy available to you and each type has a wide range of scents to choose from – there is bound to be a few of the scents which are perfect for your taste and relaxation requirements.
The most popular type of hot tub aromatherapy is crystals and they offer the widest range of scents. The Jacuzzi® Hot Tub Scents have been specially designed by Jacuzzi® to give a small range of the most popular scents. Spazazz Original and InSPAration are the two most popular and well-known brands on the market. Their standard range includes a combined 19 different scents to enhance your hot tub experience with soothing fragrances.
Aromatherapy Crystals are also available in a choice of specialist fragrances including the ‘Set the Mood’ range, created to do exactly as it says on the label. These indulgent, skin softening and soothing spa crystals melt your aches and pains away and the scents are based on your favourite cocktail drinks. Another popular range is the ‘His & Hers’, perfect as gifts for loved ones with targeted scents for the both of you to enjoy.
Second to crystals are liquids, fast becoming one of the most popular types of hot tub aromatherapy. They are enriched with emollients and skin softeners to leave you feeling moisturised, they will not affect your spa pH level and are specially formulated to mask chemical odours. Our customers often comment on how the liquid scents last a lot longer than the crystals and you don’t need to use as much product to gain a strong scent.
Bath Bombs are a well known and loved product, but did you know you can get them for the hot tub too? Designed to not affect your water chemistry, you can enjoy your own Hot Tub Bomb that is lightly scented with aromatherapies, a great and different product – especially as a gift!
Some hot tub brands have aromatherapy systems built in and will have specialist cartridges to fit into them. They often use air to circulate the scent around the hot tub as opposed to having it within the water. Check your hot tub manual to see If your hot tub has aromatherapy built in.
The beads are a great product for adaptability and longevity. The mini 0.5oz containers pack a punch with scents perfect for use in spas, bathtubs, humidifiers, vacuums and cars. They come with their own dispensers that float in the water to slowly release the desired aroma. These are available in the RX Therapy scent range , designed to specifically target various areas including, muscles, joints, the respiratory system.
How do I choose aromatherapy without being able to smell them?
We have two showrooms, in Hull and Leeds that stock a range of aromatherapies for you to smell before you buy. We understand that many of our customers are based further afield including Europe and are only able to purchase from us online, so how do you know you will like the smell?
We suggest you start by deciding what you want to gain from using aromatherapy in your hot tub. Is it simply for relaxation, or do you want to help with your breathing, muscle soreness or stress levels?
All our aromatherapies contain a description on how that scent will benefit your body and mind. If you are still unsure, try the Original Spazazz or InSPAration ranges, they each contain popular scents such as eucalyptus mint or lavender which you will have smelt before.
