Hekla

A small garden sauna for two, with a glass door

The Hekla Mini Cube fits a proper Finnish sauna for two into a footprint of about 1.3 by 1.5 metres. A thermo-spruce shell, a glass front and a two-step aspen bench, heated by a slim Harvia heater on the wall.

  • Small footprint

At about 133 × 153 cm it fits a patio, a corner of the lawn or the end of a decked area.

  • Glass front

An 8 mm grey tempered glass door with fixed glass either side lets the light in and keeps the garden in view.

  • A bench for two, and a step

A wide upper bench runs across the back, with a lower bench in front to rest your feet or sit lower down.

  • Harvia The Wall heater

A slim wall-hung heater with the Fenix Wi-Fi panel, so you can set the heat on the wall or warm it up from your phone. Choose 6 kW or 9 kW.

  • Thermo-spruce shell

Heat-treated spruce staves, held by steel bands, under a bitumen shingle roof.

  • Soft LED light

A remote-controlled LED strip gives gentle light for evening sessions.

What the Mini Cube needs from your garden

It is small, but it is still a building with a heater inside, so plan the base, the space around it and the power before it arrives.

A firm, level base

A concrete slab or a pile foundation that lets rain drain away. Hekla says it weighs up to about 300 to 400 kg built, plus the people inside. Don't stand it on grass or soil.

Space around it

Plan for about 134 × 153 cm, and leave room to walk round it. We suggest at least 50 cm. At about 222 cm tall it is under the usual 2.5 m limit for garden buildings near a boundary, but check with your local council.

A dedicated electric supply

The Wall heater is hard-wired by a qualified electrician on its own supply from your consumer unit, on a standard 230 V supply.

Built for a British garden

What is in the walls, the glass and the roof, and why it matters when it lives outside all year.

Rain runs off, not in
How the Mini Cube is built

Shell

Heat-treated spruce.

Heat treatment changes the wood so it takes in less water and moves less, so the shell stays stable through rain and frost.

What to watch for elsewhere

Untreated softwood.

Plain spruce or pine soaks up rain, swells and shrinks, and needs regular treatment.

Steel bandpulls it tight
How the Mini Cube is built

Shape

Interlocking staves, held by steel bands.

The rounded staves lock together and steel bands pull them tight, so the shell keeps its shape.

What to watch for elsewhere

Screwed flat panels.

Flat boards rely on screws and joints, which can open up as the timber moves.

8 mm grey tempered glass
How the Mini Cube is built

Glass

An 8 mm tempered glass door.

Grey tempered safety glass, made for sauna heat, with fixed glass either side.

What to watch for elsewhere

A solid door.

A small sauna with a solid door can feel dark and boxed in.

Bitumen shingles
How the Mini Cube is built

Roof

Bitumen shingles.

Overlapping shingles shed rain and snow off the curved top.

What to watch for elsewhere

Bare timber on top.

Without a covering, the top takes the full force of the weather.

Your heater and what it costs to run

The Mini Cube uses Harvia The Wall, a slim heater that hangs on the wall to save space, with the Fenix Wi-Fi panel. Pick 6 kW or 9 kW above and the figures here follow your choice.

How we work this out: a 45-minute warm-up at full power, then a one-hour session with the heater on about half the time, so about 1.25 hours at full power. Electricity at 26.32p per kWh, the Ofgem price cap from October to December 2026. A month is 4.3 weeks. Your costs depend on your tariff, the weather and how hot you like it.

Your first sauna session

There is no wrong way to sauna, but this simple rhythm is how most Finns do it.

Hottest up highGentler lower downCoolest at your feetWater on the stones makes soft steam: löyly
  1. Warm it up

Switch on about 30 to 40 minutes before. Most people enjoy 70 to 90°C. Take a quick shower first.

  2. Sit in the heat

Stay 8 to 15 minutes. Sit higher for more heat, lower for less. Ladle a little water on the stones for a burst of soft steam.

  3. Cool down

Step out for a cold shower, a dip in an ice bath or just fresh air.

  4. Rest and repeat

Sit down, drink some water, and when you are ready go back in. Two or three rounds is plenty.

Help from our UK team

Easy to look after

A few simple habits keep it looking good and smelling fresh.

Sit on a towel

It keeps the benches clean and stops sweat marks soaking into the wood.

Let it dry out

After a session, leave the door ajar for a while so the inside dries. Don't use cleaning products inside.

Check the stones

Re-stack the heater stones once a year and replace any that have crumbled, so the heat and steam stay even.

Let the outside weather

The thermo-spruce turns a silvery grey over time. That is normal. In heavy rain a little water can seep into the staves; it dries out when you heat the sauna.

Questions people ask

The things people usually want to know before they buy.

How many people fit?

Two adults, on the upper bench, with a lower bench in front for your feet.

6 kW or 9 kW?

Both work. 6 kW costs less to buy and run; 9 kW warms it up faster and holds the heat better on cold days.

Can I warm it up from my phone?

Yes. Both heaters come with the Fenix Wi-Fi panel and the MyHarvia app.

Can I pour water on the stones?

Yes. The Wall holds stones, and a ladle of water makes a burst of soft steam, called löyly.

Do I need an electrician?

Not if you choose delivery and installation: our team connects the heater for you. With flat-pack delivery, a qualified electrician connects it to its own supply.

Does it need planning permission?

Garden buildings under 2.5 m tall near a boundary usually don't, and the Mini Cube is about 222 cm tall. Rules vary, so check with your local council.

What is the difference between Scandi and Nero?

Scandi is natural thermo-spruce. Nero is the same sauna with a black finish outside. The inside is the same in both.
