Outdoor Living

A big glass-fronted garden sauna, with benches in an L

The Outdoor Living Cube is a spacious outdoor sauna in thick spruce, with three tall glass panels across the front and two deep benches set out in an L. Plenty of room to sit back, or lie down, in proper Finnish heat.

  • Three glass panels

A glass door between two tall glass side panels fills the sauna with daylight and keeps the garden in view.

  • Deep L-shaped benches

One bench runs along the left wall and one along the back, both 73 cm deep, so there is room to stretch out.

  • Thick spruce walls

The walls are 36 to 38 mm spruce, which holds the heat well and gives it a natural, authentic feel.

  • A proper roof

Red-brown asphalt shingles over a waterproof membrane keep the rain out, and steel hoops hold the frame tight.

  • Harvia heat

Choose Harvia The Wall 9 kW with the Fenix Wi-Fi panel, or a Harvia Cilindro 6.8 kW with dials on the heater.

  • Steam the Finnish way

Ladle water over the hot stones for soft, rolling steam, called löyly.

Why people love a garden sauna

A proper switch-off
Twenty minutes of dry heat is a simple way to wind down after a long day.
Warm whatever the weather
Wet, cold or dark outside, it is a warm place to be in minutes, not hours.
Time together
Room to talk, with no screens and no distractions.
Hot and cold
Pair it with a cold shower or an ice bath for the full Nordic routine.

What the Cube needs from your garden

It is a big building, so plan the base, the space around it and the power before it arrives.

A firm, level base

Concrete, paving or another hard, level surface that can take about 850 kg, plus the people inside. Don't stand it on grass or soil.

Space around it

The sauna is 235 × 220 cm. The manual asks for at least 5 cm round the sides and 30 cm above. We suggest about 50 cm all round, so it is easy to treat the timber and look after it. At 225 cm tall it is under the usual 2.5 m limit for garden buildings near a boundary, but check with your local council.

A dedicated electric supply

Both heaters are hard-wired, not plugged in. A qualified electrician runs a dedicated supply from your consumer unit, on a standard 230 V supply, with an isolation switch near the sauna.

Built for a British garden

What is in the walls, the glass and the roof.

Rain runs off, not in
How the Cube is built

Walls

36 to 38 mm spruce.

Thick spruce holds the heat well. It arrives treated against moisture and weather, and a twice-yearly treatment keeps it that way.

What to watch for elsewhere

Thin boards.

Thin walls lose heat quickly, so the sauna takes longer to warm up and costs more to run.

Steel bandpulls it tight
How the Cube is built

Frame

Rounded, held by steel hoops.

Steel hoops wrap the rounded shell and hold it tight.

What to watch for elsewhere

Screwed flat panels.

Flat boards rely on screws and joints, which can open up as the timber moves.

Glass door and two glass panels
How the Cube is built

Glass

A glass door and two glass panels.

Three tall panels across the front fill the sauna with daylight. The door opens outwards, as a sauna door should.

What to watch for elsewhere

Small windows.

A small window keeps a big room dark.

Shingles over a membrane
How the Cube is built

Roof

Shingles over a waterproof membrane.

Red-brown asphalt shingles shed the rain, with a membrane underneath as a second barrier.

What to watch for elsewhere

Bare timber on top.

Without a covering, the top takes the full force of the weather.

73 cm deep benches
How the Cube is built

Benches

Two deep benches in an L.

Both benches are 73 cm deep, with adjustable backrests, so you can sit back or lie down.

What to watch for elsewhere

Narrow benches.

A shallow bench leaves no room to stretch out.

Your heater and what it costs to run

Choose Harvia The Wall 9 kW with the Fenix Wi-Fi panel, or a Harvia Cilindro 6.8 kW with dials. 9 kW warms a room this size faster. Pick one above and the figures here follow your choice.

How we work this out: a 45-minute warm-up at full power, then a one-hour session with the heater on about half the time, so about 1.25 hours at full power. Electricity at 26.32p per kWh, the Ofgem price cap from October to December 2026. A month is 4.3 weeks. Your costs depend on your tariff, the weather and how hot you like it.

Your first sauna session

There is no wrong way to sauna, but this simple rhythm is how most Finns do it.

Hottest up highGentler lower downCoolest at your feetWater on the stones makes soft steam: löyly
  1. Warm it up

Switch on 30 to 45 minutes before. Most people enjoy 70 to 90°C. Take a quick shower first.

  2. Sit in the heat

Stay 8 to 15 minutes. Sit up tall for more heat, or put your feet up on the bench for even warmth. Ladle a little water on the stones for a burst of soft steam.

  3. Cool down

Step out for a cold shower, a dip in an ice bath or just fresh air.

  4. Rest and repeat

Sit down, drink some water, and when you are ready go back in. Two or three rounds is plenty.

Help from our UK team

Looking after the timber

Spruce is a natural timber, so a little care keeps it sound and looking good.

Treat it twice a year

Treat the wood inside and out twice a year, with products made for saunas and for temperatures over 110°C. It arrives treated.

Let it dry out

After a session, leave the door ajar so the inside dries. Don't use sealants inside: they can give off fumes in the heat.

Sit on a towel

It keeps the benches clean and stops sweat marks soaking into the spruce.

Check the stones

Re-stack the heater stones once a year and replace any that have crumbled.

Questions people ask

The things people usually want to know before they buy.

How many people fit?

Up to five, on two deep benches set out in an L.

Which heater should I choose?

The Wall 9 kW warms it faster and you can start it from your phone with the Fenix Wi-Fi panel. The Cilindro 6.8 kW is set by hand with dials on the heater.

Does the wood need treating?

Yes. It arrives treated, and we recommend treating it inside and out twice a year, with products made for saunas.

Do I need an electrician?

Yes. Both heaters are hard-wired to their own supply from your consumer unit.

Can I pour water on the stones?

Yes. Both heaters hold stones. A ladle of water on the hot stones makes a burst of soft steam, called löyly.

Does it need planning permission?

Garden buildings under 2.5 m tall near a boundary usually don't, and the Cube is 225 cm tall. Rules vary, so check with your local council.

Which way does the door open?

Outwards, as a sauna door should, so it is always easy to get out.
