Discover the Best Hot Tub For Your Garden

Six garden hot tubs, all inside a 2.3 metre square

Space, seats and power decide the right hot tub. This guide measures the plot first, then matches six new Outdoor Living tubs to the people who will use them.

Measure first, then choose.

Six garden hot tub footprints drawn to scale from one corner beside a tape measure in centimetres. Harmony is 225 by 100, Comfort 210 by 150, Lagoon 200 by 200, Haven and Serenity 216 by 216 and Sanctuary 230 by 230. All fit inside a 230 centimetre square. 00100100200200Sanctuary, 7 seatsHaven and Serenity, 5 seatsLagoon, 6 seatsComfort, 4 seatsHarmony, 2 seatsFootprints to scale in cm, from one corner.Add 50 cm on every side for clearance.

Start with the space

Measure the spot before you look at seats. A hot tub needs at least half a metre clear on all four sides, and the door to its electrical compartment must stay reachable.1 Add that margin to each footprint and you have the plot you need.2

Hot tub Footprint Plot with clearance
Harmony 225 × 100 cm 325 × 200 cm
Comfort 210 × 150 cm 310 × 250 cm
Lagoon 200 × 200 cm 300 × 300 cm
Haven and Serenity 216 × 216 cm 316 × 316 cm
Sanctuary 230 × 230 cm 330 × 330 cm

The ground comes next. A tub needs a level, load-bearing surface that can carry it when it is full and with bathers inside, and soft, sandy or uneven ground and blocks are not suitable.1 For scale, the Harmony weighs 172 kg empty and 652 kg filled.1

Walk the route from the delivery point to the plot and measure the narrowest gap against the footprint of the tub you like.

Choose by who soaks

Pick the seats for the people who soak most weeks, then see which footprint your plot allows. Every tub here is new, with Balboa controls and ozone water purification.2

Power and planning

Supply

The Harmony, Comfort and Lagoon run from a 13 A plug and play supply. The Haven, Serenity and Sanctuary use a 32 A supply.2

Our electrical installation guide shows what your electrician will check.

Safety

The circuit that feeds the tub needs RCD protection rated at 30 mA or less.1

Building regulations ask for a safe and adequate electrical installation, done by a registered competent person.3

Planning

You typically will not need planning permission to install a hot tub in your garden. Listed buildings and conservation areas are the exception, so check with your local authority first.3

Quick answers

Open a question to read the answer.

Do I need planning permission for a hot tub in my garden?

Typically not. You may need it if you live in a listed building or conservation area, so check with your local authority first.

How much space does a hot tub need?

Take the tub's footprint and add at least half a metre clear on all four sides, keeping the electrical compartment door reachable. The largest tub here, the Sanctuary, is 230 by 230 cm, so it needs a plot of 330 by 330 cm.

Which of these hot tubs are plug and play?

The Harmony, Comfort and Lagoon run from a 13 amp plug and play supply. The Haven, Serenity and Sanctuary use a 32 amp supply. In both cases, ask a registered competent electrician to confirm the supply.

What should a hot tub stand on?

A level, load-bearing surface that can carry the tub when it is full and with bathers inside. Soft, sandy or uneven ground and blocks are not suitable.

How many seats do I need?

Count the people who soak most weeks, then see which footprint your plot allows. The Harmony seats 2, the Comfort 4, the Haven and Serenity 5 with a lounger, the Lagoon 6 with a lounger and the Sanctuary 7.
