The Jacuzzi® Brand

Why Jacuzzi?

Brand Difference | Design, quality and performance continues to set Jacuzzi® apart from other hot tubs, with the perfect placement of their patented PowerPro® Jets to the optimal positioning of the body in the specially designed ergonomic seats to delivery the ultimate experience in Hydromassage.

Jets | It's a common misconception that the more jets a hot tub has, the better the massage is going to be. This is incorrect, it's not the number of jets but the way they work which makes the difference. PowerPro® Jets provide the perfect mix of air and water to delivery a high-flow, low-pressure hydromassage. The Jets are all uniquely placed to give adjustability to accommodate personal preference. Therefore relief, recovery, and relaxation are a given, from full neck and back coverage to specialty jets designed to target the smaller muscles in the legs and feet.

Jacuzzi's history

Jacuzzi® is the brand that invented the hot tub all the way back in the 1950’s. It’s a common mistake that many people make thinking that Jacuzzi is the product and not the brand, much like Hoover! As the original inventor of the world’s first whirlpool bath pump; the Jacuzzi® brand turned 60 years old in 2016.

The Jacuzzi® family traveled to the US in 1956 from Italy, to settle in the United States. The Jacuzzi® brothers were keen inventors and worked in the aviation industry before their youngest family member, Kenneth Jacuzzi®, was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, which all but debilitated him. Seeing his suffering, Kenneth’s father modified an agricultural immersion pump and transformed it into the first hydrotherapy device that could be applied to the bathtub at home … and thus J-300™ pump was born.

Hydrotherapy uses a combination of changing water temperatures and pressures to aid the muscular healing process. In Ken’s own words, “Air and water are combined…it has always been one of the keys to our design and an important part of it. The air adds to the water and vice versa, it has a synergistic effect.”

Roy Jacuzzi marketed the first self-contained, fully integrated whirlpool bath in 1969, which was sold to schools, hospitals and private houses. As larger units were designed to accommodate more people, Jacuzzi® incorporated heating and filtration systems to keep the water warm and clean, thus creating the first hot tub in 1970.

Jacuzzi today

Now an established household name, Jacuzzi® has paved the way for innovation in both the bath and spa industries.

The Jacuzzi® product portfolio now features whirlpool baths, hot tubs, showers and saunas and its systems are a firm favorite among domestic consumers, hospitality channels such as hotels and holiday parks and professional sports personalities who use the patented Jacuzzi® hydrotherapy treatment for soothing and massaging tired and injured muscles that need swift recovery.

Over the last 60 years, Jacuzzi® has developed a number of technology patents, sold over a million Jacuzzi® whirlpool systems and its products are currently available in 77 countries worldwide.

Jacuzzi timeline

The original hydrotherapy jet was invented by the Jacuzzi® brothers in 1956. Have a read of the highlights in history of when the Jacuzzi brothers created an iconic product that you look at today.

Early 1900s to 1950s

Around the turn of the century, seven Jacuzzi® brothers emigrated to California from Italy. It was in 1956 that the idea was born. A member of the Jacuzzi® family suffered with arthritis and the family thought of treatment with a hydrotherapy pump. As the pump was invented a small niche business was also born. The first pump, the J300, was originally sold to hospitals and schools.

1960s

A third generation family member, Roy Jacuzzi® joined the family business as a teenager and soon sensed the American consumers interest in health, fitness and most of all leisure. Roy soon invented and marketed the first self-contained, fully integrated whirlpool bath in 1968. This is the design you will see today with jets integrated into the sides of the tub.

1970s

It wasn't until 1970 that the first actual hot tub was created as larger units where made which had been designed to accommodate more people, and used filtration and heating systems to keep the water warm and clean. Due to these new features the product could be used outside and the success resulted in Jacuzzi® selling the business to New York based Kidde Inc. This sale also resulted in all Jacuzzi® members leaving the business apart from Roy who stayed to run Jacuzzi® operations.

Today

Jacuzzi® moved to the UK  in 2000 and has since become the worlds most recognised and largest selling brand of hot tubs. Jacuzzi® has 250 worldwide patents for advancements in pump systems, jet technology and product design. The brand has a commitment to innovative product development to ensure its leadership in the industry and sets the standards for all other hot tub brands across the world.

Outdoor Living have been selling Jacuzzi® Hot Tub since 2008 and is proud to supply its customers with the leading hot tub products in the world.
