Best Infrared Sauna for Home: How to Choose

Warm from every side, and plugged into the wall.

For most homes, that is a 2 person cabin with heat panels around the bench and a standard 13 A plug, like our Outdoor Living 2 person infrared sauna at £1,199. Here is how to choose, with five cabins from our range side by side.

Many home infrared saunas plug into an ordinary 13 A wall socket.

Our picks

Every cabin here is from our infrared saunas range, and you can sit in one at our Hull, Carlisle and Garforth showrooms.

What to look for

Four things make the difference at home: where the heat sits, the space it needs, how it is powered and what it costs to run.

Heat that reaches all of you

An infrared sauna warms you rather than the air, so the heaters need to face you. Panels only behind you leave your front and legs cool, so look for heaters on the back, both sides and by your legs.1

Carbon or full-spectrum

Carbon panels give far infrared warmth. Full-spectrum heaters give near, mid and far infrared, and the Jacuzzi cabins pair them with mica carbon heaters.2, 3 Infrared saunas usually run at about 43 to 57°C, and the Hekla Infrared 160 is ready in about 10 to 15 minutes.4, 1

Space

A 2 person cabin like the Outdoor Living 2 person is 120 by 105 cm and 190 cm tall, so it fits a spare room, a home gym or a bedroom corner.1 Our cabins are made for indoor use, and the Hekla Infrared 160 stands on a dry, level, hard floor.1

Power

The Outdoor Living cabins and the Hekla Infrared 160 plug into a standard 13 A socket, and the Hekla goes straight into the wall socket rather than an extension lead.1 The Jacuzzi 3 person draws 3,690 W3 and is wired in on its own circuit by a registered electrician, who looks after the Building Regulations notice for you.1, 6

Running cost

The Hekla Infrared 160 is rated at 2,400 W,1 so it uses at most 2.4 kWh in an hour at full power. At the price cap rate of 26.32p per kWh, that is about 63p for an hour.5
