Hot Tub Pergola: Which Size Fits Over Your Hot Tub?
Which pergola fits over your hot tub?
Our 3 x 3m pergola covers any Outdoor Living hot tub, up to the 230 cm square Sanctuary. Go up to the 4 x 3m for seats beside the water, or the 6 x 3m for the tub and a dining table under one roof.
The short answer
Pick the pergola by what you want around the hot tub, not just the tub itself.
- 3 x 3mjust the hot tub, any of ours up to 230 cm square, from £9991
- 4 x 3mthe hot tub plus seating beside it, £1,4991
- 6 x 3mthe hot tub on one side and dining on the other, £1,9991
All three have a 6063 aluminium frame, a louvred roof that tilts up to 100 degrees and rain channels that drain down inside the posts.1
Which size fits your hot tub
The 3 x 3m frame measures 296.6 cm each way, so every hot tub below fits under it. The 4 x 3m frame is 395.8 cm long, and the third column shows how much length that leaves beside each tub for seats or a side table.12

Sun, rain and steam
Close the louvres for rain
Wind the hand crank to close the louvres and the roof keeps the rain off. The water runs into channels in the beams and down inside the posts, so it does not pour off the edge onto the patio.1
Open them for sun and air
Tilt the louvres open to let the sun in, or angle them slightly so warm air can rise out while the direct sun stays off. The 6 x 3m has two roof sections with their own cranks, so one side can be open and the other closed.1
Privacy and wind
Add a fitted side screen to the side that faces the neighbours or the wind. They run in zip tracks, so the fabric stays put on breezy days, and a pull cord sets the height.3
The 3 x 3m fitted side screen is £299 and 2705 mm wide, and the 4 x 3m fitted side screen is £399 and 3698 mm wide. Both are 2375 mm high.3
Before you order
Measure the space
Measure where the pergola will stand and compare it with the frame sizes above. The guide to choosing a hot tub for your garden covers the space and base a hot tub needs.
Check the planning rules
Within 2 metres of a boundary a garden building can be up to 2.5 metres high, and our pergolas are about 2.5 metres high.41 Read do you need planning permission for a pergola? for the full limits.
Plan the power
The hot tub needs its own supply, fitted by a registered electrician. Our hot tub electrical guide explains what to ask for.

Hot tub pergola questions
Open a question to read the answer. Want to see one first? Pergolas are on display at our Hull, Carlisle and Garforth showrooms.
Can you put a pergola over a hot tub?
Yes. Our 3 x 3m aluminium pergola is designed as a frame for a hot tub, a dining set or a lounge area, and every Outdoor Living hot tub, up to the 230 cm square Sanctuary, is smaller than its 296.6 cm frame. The louvred roof tilts open for sun and closes to keep the rain off.
What size pergola do I need for a hot tub?
A 3 x 3m pergola covers any of our hot tubs. Choose the 4 x 3m if you want seating beside the tub, or the 6 x 3m to put the hot tub and a dining area under one roof.
Do I need planning permission for a hot tub pergola?
Usually not in England, if it stays within the permitted development limits for garden buildings: no more than 2.5 metres high within 2 metres of a boundary, 3 metres elsewhere for a flat or louvred roof, and not in front of the house. Our pergolas are about 2.5 metres high.
Will a louvred pergola keep the rain off my hot tub?
Close the louvres and the roof keeps the rain off, with the water running into channels and down inside the posts. Open them again for sun and fresh air.
