Wellis hot tubs: who makes them, and how to compare them

Wellis hot tubs: who makes them, and how to compare them

Wellis is a Hungarian hot tub maker, founded by two brothers and run from Dabas, near Budapest. Its tubs are sold in the UK through dealers. This guide explains where Wellis comes from, what its ranges offer and the five things to check on any model, then lines it up fairly against Jacuzzi and our own Edge range.

The line below puts the two family names in hot tubs on one scale of years. The Jacuzzi brothers' story starts in the 1940s; the Czafik brothers began building Wellis in 2004.

Timeline of two hot tub families A line of years from 1940 to today. Above the line, the Jacuzzi family in the 1940s, 1956 and 1968. Below it, Wellis in 2004, 2010 and 2022. The line ends at a hot tub seen from above. 1940s19561968200420102022

The Jacuzzi familyWellis

Who makes Wellis hot tubs?

Two family businesses, two sets of brothers, sixty years apart. Here are the moments on the line above, side by side.

Wellis, Hungary

Founded by the brothers Ákos and Zsolt Czafik, with its headquarters in Dabas.1

  1. 2004Wellis begins assembling hydromassage products in Hungary.1
  2. 2010Manufacturing starts at the Dabas plant. By 2018, 80 to 85% of its tubs went abroad, with the UK among its main markets.1
  3. 2022A €5.7 million expansion at its second plant in Ózd adds an automated production line.2 Wellis now lists more than 1,600 employees and over 500 dealer locations worldwide.3

Jacuzzi, United States

The Jacuzzi family came to the United States from Italy in the early 1900s.7

  1. 1940sCandido Jacuzzi invents a hydrotherapy pump to help his son's arthritis.7
  2. 1956The family begins marketing the pump as the J‑300.7
  3. 1968Jacuzzi creates the Roman, the world's first integrated jet whirlpool bath. Jacuzzi's UK head office is in Leeds.7

The Wellis ranges

Wellis groups its hot tubs into three lines, from simple plug-and-play tubs up to large party spas.4 On its own site it also uses the names CityLife and PeakLife, and it makes StreamLife swim spas and cold plunges.3

Model names and features vary from country to country, so ask the dealer for the brochure for the exact model you are looking at, and compare that one sheet against any other tub on your list.

Every line shares the same insulation idea. Wellis calls it Scandinavian insulation: insulating boards fitted inside the frame, a reflective barrier with high-density foam, and air pockets in the base tray to hold the heat in.5

MyLine
The everyday range, with easy controls and ergonomic seats. It includes plug-and-play models such as the Orion and Leo, and the hardwired Libra.4
CityLine
Adds in-spa audio, aromatherapy, colour lighting and phone control through an app. Models include the London and Paris.4
PeakLine
The top range, with touchscreen controls and premium audio. It includes the Olympus party spa and the Mont Blanc and Monte Rosa.4

Five things to check on any Wellis

These are the questions that separate one hot tub from another, whoever makes it. The middle column shows what Wellis lists for its Everest LIFE Premium, one of the models on its own site, as a worked example.6

Ask Wellis Everest LIFE Premium Why it matters
How is it insulated? LIFE Scandinavian insulation, with boards fitted without gaps in the frame and floor, plus a foil that reflects pump heat back into the water. Insulation decides how much heat you keep on a cold night, and so how much you pay to run it.
How is the water kept clean? Three MicroPlus filter cartridges and the OZMIX system, which mixes ozone into the water. The filters and the sanitiser system set your weekly care routine and what you will buy for it.
How is it heated and powered? A 3 kW heat pump stored under the step. Check whether the model plugs into a 13 amp socket or needs a hardwired supply from an electrician.
Can I control it from my phone? SmartTouch control panel and a Wi-Fi connection. Phone control lets you heat the tub on the way home and keep an eye on it while you are away.
How is the warranty split? 10 years on the shell structure and 3 years on engineering parts. Warranties are split between shell, parts and labour. Ask for each figure on the exact model.

Questions about Wellis hot tubs

Open a question to read the answer.

Who makes Wellis hot tubs?

Wellis is a Hungarian company founded by the brothers Ákos and Zsolt Czafik. Its headquarters are in Dabas, Hungary, and it has a second plant in Ózd.

Are Wellis hot tubs made in Hungary?

Yes. Wellis builds its hot tubs in Hungary and sells them through dealers in the UK and across Europe.

Is a Wellis the same as a Jacuzzi?

No. Jacuzzi is a separate brand, started by the Jacuzzi family in the United States. People often say jacuzzi for any hot tub, but Wellis and Jacuzzi are different makers with their own designs and water care.

Can I get parts for my Wellis hot tub?

Wellis hot tubs with the Balboa GS100 control system can use the genuine Balboa GS100 2kW heater (part 58201-01) and GS100 main board (part 56461-03), which we stock. Check that your control box says GS100 before ordering, or call us on 01482 212322.

How should I compare a Wellis with other hot tubs?

Compare the same five things on each tub: insulation, how the water is kept clean, the power supply it needs, phone control and how the warranty is split between shell, parts and labour. Ask for the brochure for the exact model, because names and features vary by country.
